I'M KAYLA FITZGERALD

REGISTERED DIETITIAN FOR RUNNERS
RACE DIRECTOR AT PALMETTO ULTRAS

My name is Kayla and I'm a Registered Dietitian, Ultrarunner and race director based in Charleston, South Carolina. 

 

I specialize in helping runners create personalized race day fueling plans so they can run strong from the starting line to the finish. My approach is rooted in sports nutrition science, but also shaped by real-life experience out on the roads and trails. I know firsthand how the right plan can prevent bonks, boost confidence, and turn race day into the celebration it should be.

WORK WITH ME

You put in the work with your training for your big race but what about nutrition? My job is to help take the guesswork out of what to eat and when on race day so that you can go out there and focus on what matters most: feeling good and running your race!

You'll fill out a questionnaire so I can get to know all about your current run fueling habits (or if you're starting from scratch that's fine too!) and your upcoming race

We'll hop on a call to discuss your questionnaire and iron out all the little details about race day and I'll get to work creating a customized race day nutrition plan that takes into account your preferences and specifics to your race like temperature, elevation, etc..

I'll email your plan to you and you'll have 2 weeks of follow up with me where you can try out your plan on training runs and we can make any needed adjustments to the plan so you go into race day feeling confident!

I started working with Kayla a few months before participating in a 24 hour race that she was directing. I participated in Group Nutrition Coaching and I can’t recommend her services and expertise enough. My race goal was to run 100 miles in that time. I’d done that before but it was many years prior so I was very nervous to attempt it again. I also found myself dreading the upcoming training cycle, fearing that the fatigue and recovery of training would negatively impact my day to day. Through her self guided course and also the groups calls, I’d never felt more supported or prepared for a race. I was so proud to hit my goal and it was extra special to have her at the finish line! The two biggest things that were game changers due to working with Kayla was how good I felt throughout training and how enjoyable race day was. In training, I could have big mileage days and still have energy to enjoy the other areas of my life. And I never cursed the course once on race day bc I had a plan and energy throughout the race which made the day so fun! When my stomach turned 85 miles in I didn’t panic and was able to slow down but keep moving until I pulled through it having practiced trouble shooting throughout training! I can’t wait to work with Kayla again in order to hit my next big goal!

Thanks again so much Kayla for everything. You have changed so much for me and my family. I fueled my run pretty well this morning, allowing me to pick my son up from school and go take my mom out for a late Mothers Day lunch. Hit up the grocery store and got stuff done around the house after. Before I would have been laid up all day after a run like that! You were a huge blessing for me thanks again!

Kayla is amazing; she is worth every penny and more. She's an ultra runner in addition to an amazing dietitian so she "gets it." I felt like the fueling piece of the puzzle was the piece I was missing. My training was on point, I felt great running...I just couldn't get that nutrition piece nailed down. I would get sick during races, bonk, and feel like poo the rest of the day and beyond. Wow. She was a life saver. She simplified it for me, she gave me some fantastic and easy to follow suggestions, her race plan was on point. Now that I know what I'm doing, I have taken my running to the next level. I don't feel sick. I haven't bonked. And I am not exhausted the rest of the day after my long run. Thank you Kayla!!

 She helped me with fueling for races and my first sprint triathlon. I always experienced GI issues while running races and she gave me a detailed plan and suggestions and I haven't had ANY GI issues since! I especially recommend her for helping to build a fueling plan for any races you may have.
